About this policy

This policy explains how Gary collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). By using our website and services, you agree to the handling of your information as described here.

What we collect

We collect personal information such as your name, contact details and, where relevant, payment details, along with the business information we need to assess your risk and arrange your cover: your occupation and business type, turnover and wages, the premises you work from, the property and equipment you own, and your claims history.

We usually collect it directly from you when you request a quote, buy a policy, make a claim, or get in touch, and sometimes from third parties such as the insurers we deal with on your behalf.

How we use it

We use your information for the purposes you’d reasonably expect: preparing quotes, arranging and administering your insurance, processing payments and claims, servicing your policies, meeting our legal and regulatory obligations, and staying in touch about your cover. We may also use de-identified information to improve our services. We don’t sell your data.

Website analytics & cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how our website is used: which pages are visited, how people move between them, and how our quizzes and quote forms are used. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your device, browser, approximate location and the pages you view. We don’t send it your name, contact details or the answers you give in a quote, and it is not used to identify you.

Google may process this information outside Australia. You can block these cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We also use the Meta Pixel on our information pages (not on our quote or payment pages). It sets cookies that tell Meta (Facebook and Instagram) you visited our website, so we can measure our ads and show them to people likely to be interested. When you start a quote or buy a policy, we tell Meta that it happened, together with your email address and phone number in a scrambled (hashed) form, so Meta can match it to an ad you saw. We never send Meta the answers you give in a quote or the details of your cover.

Meta may process this information outside Australia, including in the United States. You can block these cookies in your browser settings, and you can control the ads you see in your Facebook and Instagram ad preferences.

When we share it

To provide your cover we share your information with the insurers on your quote and, where relevant, premium funders. We also share it with the service providers who help us operate, such as our IT, payments, communications and professional advisers, and where we’re required or authorised to by law. We only share what’s needed for these purposes.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Storing & securing your information

We hold your information in secure systems and take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We keep it only for as long as we need it or the law requires, then take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

Marketing

If we send you updates about products or services that may be relevant to you, you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us. We won’t use sensitive information for marketing without your consent.

Accessing & correcting your information

You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, or to correct it if it’s inaccurate, out of date or incomplete, by emailing gday@gogary.com.au. We’ll respond within a reasonable time. Occasionally we may be unable to give access or make a correction where the law allows, and if so we’ll explain why.

Privacy complaints

If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your personal information, contact us at gday@gogary.com.au and we’ll look into it and respond. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version always lives on this page, and any material change takes effect once it’s published here.
